Toenail fungus is a very common disease in about 6-8% in the adult population. There are many people who you know that will have some form of toe fungus infection of the nail (onychomycosis) and you wouldn’t even know.

One of the most common types of tinea or a fungal nail disease is distal subungual onychomycosis, caused by a fungus called trichophyton rubrum. This basically means that the infection starts in the area underneath the nail, and then spreads to the tip, where it can then move on the top of the nail.
